The Allentown Environmental Advisory Council and Promise Neighborhoods
Larissa Pasco '23 works with Mayor Tuerk to develop a sustainability plan on energy inefficiencies
Allentown, PA (10/09/2022) — Larissa Pasco '23 works with Mayor Tuerk to develop a sustainability plan on energy inefficiencies. Larissa worked on two interconnected internships this summer, one throgh Muhlenberg's Office of Community Engagement and another through the Allentown Enviormental Advisory Council. From a list of 110 possible sustainability metrics, As of right now, the Allentown Envrionemtal Advisory Council has recommended for the city to focus on 9, with 6 short-term and long-term goals to match. There is no guarantee that these will be approved. Larissa visited 17 Parks this summer working with Allentown Dep. Of Recycling and Solid Waste to teach children and young adults about recycling. "I actually was very fortunate to be able to work with Mayor Tuerk on the content and I eventually presented data, research, and findings to the Allentown City Council last August. We actually changed the title to "Energy Inefficiencies in Communities with High Energy Burdens, an Analysis of the issues and recommended solutions for Allentown".
